Flying Baby House Party!
on Jun.01, 2009, under Friends, Home Life
While the title of this post may be a bit misleading, it is nevertheless appropriate. Flying Biscuit, a (relatively) new baby, a trip to the old house, and a pool party. Yep, it was definitely one of those weekends.
On Saturday we headed to midtown for brunch lunch at Flying Biscuit with with David and Renee. While waiting on them to arrive, we hung out at Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse across the street. I got a cup of coffee there and hung out in their corner coffee area, an open, and brightly lit spot surrounded by windows. I almost felt like I was an ITP (inside the perimeter) local.
David and Renee brought with them this strange, pudgy, nearly hairless, human-like creature that they called “Addison”. Now, I had known that Renee had previously been pregnant. Pregnancy, if I understand this correctly, eventually leads to the creation of such a thing. I’m not sure what the appeal is, really. It’s tiny, relatively uncommunicative, and is unable to perform even the simplest of tasks. It’s a terrible conversationalist. We talked for a while with David and Renee, but Addison didn’t offer a single opinion on any of the topics we discussed. It couldn’t even walk around the park on its own but, instead, had to be pushed around in a wheeled vehicle similar to a wheelbarrow. At one point this “Addison” creature just started crying for no apparent reason, showing a clear disregard for others and a general inability to control emotional outbursts. Speaking of outbursts, there were a few occasions where flatulence apparently overtook the creature. This, of course, was expressed with complete abandon.
All of that being said, she is kinda’ cute. Congratulations, you two!
That evening we went to a confirmation dinner for one of the youth at our church. Being a recovering Baptist, I’m still somewhat dumbfounded by this whole process. I understand how it evolved and even the theology behind it, but it still seems a bit foreign to me and even, to some extent, a little theologically shaky. At any rate, the dinner was nice and it was cool to have been invited.
Sunday was a bit odd. That morning, Wanda left early to head to Augusta. She swung by Covington to pick up a family member to help her, then headed to our house in Augusta to pick up the remainder of our stuff from the crawlspace under the house. Meanwhile, I did my usual Sunday morning thing (albeit, with zero rehearsal time previously in the week) then headed to a confirmation reception pool party. I came completely unprepared (jeans and a polo) and probably would have stayed drier by jumping into the pool fully clothed.
It was a good but draining weekend that, in classic weekend style, felt like no weekend at all. Ah well, there’s always next weekend!
Actually no, maybe the weekend after that…

Both obviously.
